Walnut Testing Solutions

Walnuts are nutrient-dense nuts that provide an excellent source of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and essential vitamins and minerals. Walnuts are classified as a major tree nut and can cause potentially fatal food allergies. Although the outer shell of the walnut fruit is hard and fibrous, the inner seed is smooth and oily, making it a common ingredient in various food products. Due to the severity of walnut allergies, it is essential to inspect both the production environment and food products for traces of walnuts, as cross-contamination can occur during manufacturing. The food industry must use highly sensitive testing equipment to ensure compliance with strict food safety standards and prevent accidental exposure to walnut allergens.

Mandatory labeling of tree nuts in food products
Tree nuts, including walnuts, are among the most common causes of food allergies, affecting both children and adults. In the United States and Europe, the prevalence of tree nut allergies is estimated to range from 0.2% to 0.5%. Therefore, mandatory labeling of tree nuts in food products is required by law in many countries, including the EU (Regulation (EU) No 1169/201) and the US (U.S. FDA – FALCPA 2004).
